A blog created for up to date Goldheart Assembly news
and to enlighten people about their music. who are they.

Hark! Opening door 6 of your advent calendar today has revealed some blog-like correspondence. Advent isn’t all about frivolous fun.

A nativity of sorts

‘Allo….

Time for catch up then……..

Time flies when you’re having fun, but seemingly also when immersed in the rigors, head-scratching and inevitable excitement of making records.  It seems only yesterday that we returned from Switzerland with a belly full of Milka, and a new record all but wrapped up. ….

21 tracks were recorded in the space of 3 weeks in Luzern and despite calls from some quarters for a Goldheart Assembly double album, deliberation ensured common sense prevailed, and the 21 songs were whittled down to a more manageable 11. I’ll have my double record yet. ….

Anyways, while we away our resident film enthusiast Nicky Francis generously compiled some neatly packaged recording blogs. ….

Have a peek if you haven’t already.

Exhibit A. Where John succeeds in playing the guitar without any apparent ability and we record a song called ‘Oh Really’…..

Exhibit B. Where a cat is stroked, a double bass is played and we hear the progress of a song by Jim called ‘Slowing Down’. ….

Exhibit C. Where Nicky, Jake and Jim discuss a drum machine as we put together a song named, for now, ‘Familiar’. ….

Exhibit D. Where Kyle muses at length on the virtues of guitar pedals and we get all solemn recording a song called ‘Bird on a Chain’…..

Having now added string quartets, brass ensembles, megaphones and the vocal talents of many friends, we find all that remains is to finish mixing the record.

Being a somewhat impatient bunch though, we decided to take a rough mix of one of the songs and make some sort of video. The song is called Linnaeus, and while tempting to suggest that it might contain fascinating insights into the life of the seminal scientific thinker, it is, to all intents and purposes, just a pop song. We hope you like it…..

Now that our London residency has come to a close, we wish to thank those of you who made it down to the gigs, we greatly appreciate your support.  Thanks also to the acts who played as supports, City Sessions for sponsoring the event and the Spice of Life for their hospitality and being ‘flexible’ with the capacity…..

For those who didn’t make any of the dates, consider yourself ticked off. Hopefully see you in the future.

All that remains is to say farewell, Merry Christmas and I trust this correspondence finds you in rude health. ….

Yours,

John and Goldheart Assembly….
